Immersion Assembly Term 3 2019,

Walt: Use explanation writing

Do you know what an Immersion Assembly is? Have you ever been to one? Would you like me to tell you?

Monday morning was very tiring but all the school were soon woken by the amazing items that each team pulled off - We have teams in our school, Team 1 = year 1 & 2, Team 2 = 3 & 4 so know you get the point. We have 5 teams altogether and each team presented an item to the entire school through sing dance act whatever really. Our theme for this term is Life’s A Stage, it summarises a whole heap of things like dancing, acting, drama and much more.

I’m going to explain just one item from the assembly. I’m going to choose Team 4’s. Team 4 had an amazing item. They interviewed the characters from our school production last term, Toy Shop. They interviewed 4 characters, Woody from the movie Toy Story, Optimus Prime from the Transformers series, The Toy shop Shopkeeper, and Teddy bear also from Toy Shop production, and of course Bo Peep from Toy Story questioned them.
Bo Peep interviewed Woody, first she asked him a few questions before a song suddenly came on and the cast all danced to this song... The Git Up. Once they were finished Bo Peep moved on to questioned Teddy she went on and on until another song came on and you guessed it, it was the… Teddy Bear Picnic. On and on they went until the music stopped. Bo Peep questioned Optimus and sped through the interview but once the talking was done the song No Effect came on. The teachers danced and danced. Finally the song was complete and the teachers sat down once again. Lastly but not least the Shopkeeper was questioned. She was answering questions fast and Bo Peep had nearly run out of questions, she was handling this well, she thought. Just to finish it off they played finale song Zip Zap Avenue written and sung by Mr Jacobsen and used in the Toy Shop Production.

We all cheered and laughed, some people even started singing along then everyone joined in… zip zip zip zap avenue the magical toy shop… we all applauded and the actors bowed and hurried off the stage to resume their original seats and join in on the fun with the rest of the teams.

For the past few weeks we have been practising and learning sewing techniques. Today we actually attempted and completed our cushion, in the photo above this is me with my fat cushion named Gerald. I am very happy and glad that I have achieved this level of sewing and all the fabulous teaching Mrs Tuipolotu did to educate us.

We made the cushions out of Ben 10 wrapping and flooded the insides with stuffing! I have enjoyed these sessions with Mrs Tuipolotu because one day I would need to learn to sew something for someone important but now I don’t need to learn because i've been taught by an expert sewing teacher, Mrs Tuipolotu.

Orienteering With Mr Jacobsen

Walt: Write a recount based on what happened with Mr Jacobsen

I wasn’t even startled to hear Mr Jacobsen’s announcement - “We’re doing Orienteering!!!” He said and obviously everyone cheered and laughed at one another as they all cracked jokes and celebrated, my reaction wasn’t as HIP HOORAY as the rest due to late nights so I wasn’t really keen at all. Mr J had set up an orienteering course by placing yellow plastic plates with letters and a direct course - a direction to head in, using the numbers of a compass. E.G Head 225 Degrees East or Head 430 Degrees North. We all learnt how to use a compass, and could easily mirror his actions as he double checked and repeated the entire process again. Obviously we were bored by the third time he explained it (you know how there’s always a person while your in a boring process and they don’t understand so they put up their hands and make the speaker repeat it all again.)

We each kept our compasses in hand or round our neck using some thread, I chose to hold mine. Mr J each gave us a different starting position and we got to work in groups, the max limit was pairs, I chose to be by myself though. I started at one of the trees and blasted off to the direction I was heading to the next mark (Or the mark I thought,) there were several marks close to one another so it was a relatively hard to tell which mark you were heading which also made it a very difficult course to complete.

There were about 10 marks that set the course and they were set around the Entire school. So we were pointing our compasses through the walls to the next mark but it was not in our vision, so we thought it was another mark which led us completely off course! Only 1 team succeeded (obviously it wasn’t mine,) I actually got it completely wrong! But at least I finished it and it was still enjoyable! I had loads of fun!

Fairy Tale Introduction - Goldilocks & The Three Bears

Different Introductions to begin a story:
It was a late morning
I awoke once the sun touched my eyes
I yawned as I got out of my bed duvets

It was late morning when the two bears awoke from their deep sleep through the cold night.
They both shivered to drain out the coldness from their body’s and rubbed their fur to flood
their bodies with warmness once again.
As soon as they all stumbled down the stairs, they could smell a light scent that smells
delicious, but then it disappeared in the morning air, they searched for it again, they didn’t
find it, but once the smell came past them again like a current that’s drifts things out to sea.
They were sure of where it was coming from… downstairs!
They both rushed down the stairs and followed the scent to the kitchen where Mama bear
was cooking her delicious porridge recipe and an immense grin appeared on their faces!

Immersion Assembly Term 2 2019

On a late morning we began our first day of school for Term 2. To be honest as usual,
everyone was bored and tired and each of us dearly missed the holidays and the sleep-in
and well, being free from the pressure and tension that school can bring when you are
caught up with a bunch of work! From now on till 9 weeks is past we will be following
the new and improved overall korero of the term… “I Like Your Latitude” and “Where In
The Longitude Are You?”.

Today’s day also brought along the long and kinda cool Immersion Assembly when our
teachers provide us with a video or a live short performance or even just a talk that explains
to us what each team is learning while the term lasts. I’m in Team 5, the cool team.
Obviously I mostly interacted with Team 5’s performance with how smart their storyline
was and how funny it was and how they actually used basic “longitude” and “latitude”.

To be honest I didn’t interact well with Team 1’s performance. As always they made a
movie like always and tried to make it funny by making their voices high-pitched which
people did giggle when the time came, well even I did! Their main goal was to create a
movie about how bees are dying and what is causing this disruption to the earth. I’ve got
to say they didn’t really base it on the main topic (“Longitude” and ”Latitude”) because
they didn’t really use coordination and other things that relate to that!

Team 2 didn’t really perform. What actually happened was the teachers just set up an
easter egg hunt by hiding several eggs everywhere and instructing the kids with a learning
lesson and continuously repeating actions that went in an order like this (Up, down, left,
right, under, over, all around). I was surprised to see that this tactic worked as they sprinted
around repeating action after action and somehow finding an immense packload full of
easter eggs.

Team 3 actually did pretty darn’ well with their movie. They made their movie that was
based on a “Pick A Path Story”. They had a great storyline to it and most importantly,
they based on a person who was bored when she walked to school and somehow a magical
witch showed up and let her choose what she where she wanted to go to travel to school,
she had two options:

  1. Forest
  2. Beach

At first she chose forest and had a splendid time but the she came across the magical witch
again with the same choices, this time she chose beach and had a wonderful time
wandering in the dry tanned sand. Sooner or later she finally made it to school with a grin
on her face!

Team 4 also did pretty darn’ well, well they always think of good movies to show what
their learning and also they make it really funny. Their movie was about how a teacher
calls a meeting for the other teachers to join him, but when they got there they were
surprised to see no Mr Goodwin as they wondered this, a frown formed on each of their
faces. After a while a phone call appeared on Miss Parrants phone and they were mad to
see who‘s name was at the top… Mr Goodwin! Once he appeared he started right away
“Hello teachers” he said “I have set a test for you” “you must follow the map and compass
that I will send you to find your way to our meeting at Pt England School, bye”. Once they
found the compass they set off around Glen Innes following which direction is best, as
normal they took regular stops to bakery’s and dairy’s just to gather provisions/food and
maybe a little snack.

I think you already know team 5’s item so i’m not gonna bore you to death!
