I’ve had heaps of fun this term because we actually did something cool and creative which was unmistakably, building the UV sensor. Also I loved going to KPMG and learning about drama and Shakespeare! I have loved this year because we’ve actually done something other than just sitting behind a desk with a computer and gathering research, it’s not much fun. I reckon’ I have really learnt something about UV Light and such and i’m so confident I reckon’ I could tell you everything I know about, UV Light.
Obviously I don’t want to spread boredom in your mind as I explain ALL about it, so lucky for you, I won’t. At first I found it boring simply because there was nothing to do and we just talked and talked day after day. But when Mrs Lagitupu Introduced Ray, I was anxious to see the reason for his arrival. And soon I did, as I already mentioned he taught and showed us how to build a teensy UV Sensor - A UV Sensor senses when the sun’s UV rays are too hot and can immensely burn your skin.
Walt: Create an animation with characters dancing Task Description: This term we had to create an animation based on dancing. We drew characters to dance to the Git Up song. I drew 4 characters and made them dance. It was fun!
Walt: Create a poster of organisms from smallest to largest
Task Description: This week we had to create a poster and research smallest to biggest organisms. Also I added facts to 3 of my creatures, they each explain many things. I found it easy! (Might want to zoom in to see the facts and stuff.)
Walt: Analyse & interpret statistical data Task Description: This week we had to analyse data, and interpret grapghs. we even had to make our own and compare it to others. I found it hard! We even got to play a cool trading game, where there were 5 countries and each 5 groups were assigned to each country. we had to trade materials like oil, lumber, gold, electronics, & coffee. our team won even though we didn't trade at all!
Task Description: This week we had to create a poster of the DNA Cycle, here is my explanation below because it's very blurry on the poster! (Start at DNA when you read the poster.)
DNA forms RNA which makes Amino Acids. The RNA transports itself to the Ribosome which sends a special blueprint to the proteins to form a perfectly new shaped protein. The proteins can make new and more cells. Cells form a tissue and which make Organs and all of this combined creates an organism.
Task Description: This week we had to create a narritive of any genre. I chose none of them, I decided to write about my partner named AJ. We were just simply writing what came to our heads. Check out each of our story's. I found it easy!
Walt: Write a review on your progress for this year This year I am proud to say that I have made solid progress. I have learnt and used several times, ratios, division, algebra, and truckloads more. I really thank my awesome math teacher Mrs Stone, she has guided me to learn lots of new things and has taught me many strategies. I have begun to love math! Sometimes I even find it fun in numerous ways.
Walt: Analyse ‘point of view’ of text & impact on reader Task Description: This week we had to answer questions which were involved in the book, Springers. we also had to create a role play based on one of the scenes, but unfortunately my group couldn't finish it in time.
Do you know what an Immersion Assembly is? Have you ever been to one? Would you like me to tell you?
Monday morning was very tiring but all the school were soon woken by the amazing items that each team pulled off - We have teams in our school, Team 1 = year 1 & 2, Team 2 = 3 & 4 so know you get the point. We have 5 teams altogether and each team presented an item to the entire school through sing dance act whatever really. Our theme for this term is Life’s A Stage, it summarises a whole heap of things like dancing, acting, drama and much more.
I’m going to explain just one item from the assembly. I’m going to choose Team 4’s. Team 4 had an amazing item. They interviewed the characters from our school production last term, Toy Shop. They interviewed 4 characters, Woody from the movie Toy Story, Optimus Prime from the Transformers series, The Toy shop Shopkeeper, and Teddy bear also from Toy Shop production, and of course Bo Peep from Toy Story questioned them.
Bo Peep interviewed Woody, first she asked him a few questions before a song suddenly came on and the cast all danced to this song... The Git Up. Once they were finished Bo Peep moved on to questioned Teddy she went on and on until another song came on and you guessed it, it was the… Teddy Bear Picnic. On and on they went until the music stopped. Bo Peep questioned Optimus and sped through the interview but once the talking was done the song No Effect came on. The teachers danced and danced. Finally the song was complete and the teachers sat down once again. Lastly but not least the Shopkeeper was questioned. She was answering questions fast and Bo Peep had nearly run out of questions, she was handling this well, she thought. Just to finish it off they played finale song Zip Zap Avenue written and sung by Mr Jacobsen and used in the Toy Shop Production.
We all cheered and laughed, some people even started singing along then everyone joined in… zip zip zip zap avenue the magical toy shop… we all applauded and the actors bowed and hurried off the stage to resume their original seats and join in on the fun with the rest of the teams.
Task Description: This week we had another recap but with much more challenging work. We encountered angles, graphs, patterns and coordinates. Even though it looked like hard work, I have magically improved heaps without knowing, so I zipped through the work and completed it!
This week we studied mammals and how they survive? How they eat? Why they have to eat all the time? things like that. We looked very close at mammals and found many facts to include by answering our questions. I found it easy!
For the past few weeks we have been practising and learning sewing techniques. Today we actually attempted and completed our cushion, in the photo above this is me with my fat cushion named Gerald. I am very happy and glad that I have achieved this level of sewing and all the fabulous teaching Mrs Tuipolotu did to educate us.
We made the cushions out of Ben 10 wrapping and flooded the insides with stuffing! I have enjoyed these sessions with Mrs Tuipolotu because one day I would need to learn to sew something for someone important but now I don’t need to learn because i've been taught by an expert sewing teacher, Mrs Tuipolotu.
Walt: Use facts and personal experiences to support position
Task Description: This week we had to use pros and cons to decide whether learning and knowing diffent languages was a good or bad thing, I also had to express my opinion on whether I thought it was good or not. I found it easy!
Walt: Write a short and interesting recount of the Dodecahedron experience
Today Jacob, AJ and myself challenged ourselves to create a Dodecahedron. We were overcome with many confusing folding parts that made our minds whirl in circles. We each had many turns attempting to fold the unsolved piece, Jacob tried it first. He got so close but he somehow didn’t manage it completely. Luckily and finally AJ completed it and saved our lives of the treacherous stress we all faced. AJ obviously wouldn’t have been able to complete this task and level of difficulty without his team!
Hope you enjoyed my quick recount of Da Dodecahedron experience. We had loads of fun!
Task Description: This week there were many challenges that my group confronted, we had to search for an answer while trying to show our working! There were many super duper hard problems that we struggled to solve. My group was AJ, Jacob, Freedom and myself! We eventually tied in 1st place. I enjoyed it very much!
Walt: Write an explanation of how to be smart online
Pause & Think
Think about what you do or should do before you do it, and consider all consequences. Are you stopping and thinking before you spoil all your personal info? Even if you are tall are you respecting and being kind to others? Main Message: Stand tall and stand up for yourself online like bullies if they’re trying to get into your personal info.
Walt: Write a recount based on what happened with Mr Jacobsen
I wasn’t even startled to hear Mr Jacobsen’s announcement - “We’re doing Orienteering!!!” He said and obviously everyone cheered and laughed at one another as they all cracked jokes and celebrated, my reaction wasn’t as HIP HOORAY as the rest due to late nights so I wasn’t really keen at all. Mr J had set up an orienteering course by placing yellow plastic plates with letters and a direct course - a direction to head in, using the numbers of a compass. E.G Head 225 Degrees East or Head 430 Degrees North. We all learnt how to use a compass, and could easily mirror his actions as he double checked and repeated the entire process again. Obviously we were bored by the third time he explained it (you know how there’s always a person while your in a boring process and they don’t understand so they put up their hands and make the speaker repeat it all again.)
We each kept our compasses in hand or round our neck using some thread, I chose to hold mine. Mr J each gave us a different starting position and we got to work in groups, the max limit was pairs, I chose to be by myself though. I started at one of the trees and blasted off to the direction I was heading to the next mark (Or the mark I thought,) there were several marks close to one another so it was a relatively hard to tell which mark you were heading which also made it a very difficult course to complete.
There were about 10 marks that set the course and they were set around the Entire school. So we were pointing our compasses through the walls to the next mark but it was not in our vision, so we thought it was another mark which led us completely off course! Only 1 team succeeded (obviously it wasn’t mine,) I actually got it completely wrong! But at least I finished it and it was still enjoyable! I had loads of fun!
This week we had to complete another presentation about Climate Change but this time we tried to find words that matched changed and what causes Climate Change and what sort of extreme weather it brings. I found it easy!
Little Red Riding Hood Intro: It was late morning when Emma awoke from her deep sleep. She felt a cold chill as she pulled the duvet covers off her and laid them aside, she finally opened her eyes as she blinked through the bright light of the sun beaming through her windows around her plain red room.
Three Little Pigs: “I'm sorry but it is time for you to go off into the world and live by yourself, maybe even find a girl, oh but watch out for that big bad wolf, best to make houses out of either Straw, Sticks or Bricks might be best” Mummy Pig said.
Aladdin: “How would you like a grand tour on the Magic Carpet?”
Task Description: This week my classmates and I completed a presentation based on Inforative Writing. We had to analyse and describe our paragraphs that we wrote ourselves. Check out my presentation to find out more!
